The "Jean Sibelius" Rapallo Orchestra
The "Jean Sibelius" Rapallo Orchestra, created within the social promotion association of the same name, is entirely made up of young and qualified musicians from Liguria. The inaugural concert was held on April 20, 2010 at the Teatro Auditorium delle Clarisse as part of the 12th Culture Week, promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities in collaboration with the Regional Directorate for Cultural and Landscape Heritage of Liguria.
In January 2012 the orchestra performed at the Basilica of SS. Gervasio and Protasio in the Benefit Concert for the Flooded Populations of Liguria, organized by the Cultural Association "Rapallo Musica." The following June, the orchestra presented A. Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" as part of the Green Night Festival organized by the City of Santa Margherita Ligure (GE).
During 2013 the orchestra performed in Rapallo the New Year's Concert at the Teatro Auditorium delle Clarisse and the Easter Concert at the Basilica of SS. Gervasio and Protasio; it also took part in the production of Tosca at the Teatro del Palazzo del Parco in Bordighera (IM). In August, the orchestra was the protagonist, together with the Choir of the "G. Nicolini" Conservatory of Piacenza, of a concert dedicated to music by Mozart and Verdi; the event took place in Rapallo in the evocative setting of Piazza Canessa, never before used for outdoor performances. The concert was later replicated in Saliceto di Cadeo (PC) and at the Basilica of Sant'Antonino in Piacenza, as part of the celebrations promoted to mark the bicentenary of Giuseppe Verdi's birth.
On January 1, 2014 and 2015, the orchestra again performed in the New Year's Concert at the Teatro Auditorium delle Clarisse in Rapallo. It also performed a concert in March 2015 at St. Anthony's Church in Venice Lido together with two Venetian choral ensembles. In December 2015, she was the protagonist of the symphonic concert "Homage to Jean Sibelius," held at the Teatro Auditorium delle Clarisse as part of the official celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the birth of the greatest Finnish composer.
During 2016 it performed at the traditional New Year's Concert at the Teatro Auditorium delle Clarisse, which was repeated the following day at the Council Hall in Diano Marina (IM). These events were followed by the Easter Concert at the Basilica of SS. Gervasio and Protasio in Rapallo, Mozart's Requiem at the Church of S. Antonio Abate in Diano Marina, and two concerts in Laigueglia (SV) and Andora (SV). In October 2016, the orchestra performed at the Villa Tesoriera in Turin and launched its first Rapallo concert season, called "The Sibelius Concerts."
In January 2017 it performed at the Rina and Gilberto Govi Theater in Genoa Bolzaneto. Finally, in August of the same year, it performed in Rapallo in the "Mogol & Cristicchi Live Concert" event and was the resident orchestra of the Rapallo Opera Festival and Estate Musicale Dianese with "Il Trovatore" and "La Traviata." The Music Director is Filippo Torre, founding member and Artistic Director of the "Jean Sibelius" Association - ETS of Rapallo.
